Depopulation, desertification, degradation. This is a journey through what we left behind. In the past 5 decades, the population living in Portugal increased 50% in coastal areas and decreased 40% in inland regions. The population density in the coast is 375 times bigger than in inland territories. Less than 1/5 of the total national younger population lives here. 60% of them plan or want to move to coastal urban cities. The number and intensity of the wildfires is increasing due to the abandonment of the florestal/agricultural areas and lack of land management - playing a much more determinant factor than climate change. Furthermore, we disable railway lines and we significantly reduced the investment in health and education.

However, this is also a story and journey through the expectations and hope of (re)territorialization of the Portuguese inland areas. Nature is struggling to rewild the land. Newcomers and temporary visitors are encouraging and promoting new projects. 'INland' is eventually following the same path. The project includes a collection of off-road bikepacking routes in inland areas of Portugal.

'A Trans Montana' is a bikepacking route - 50% off-road and 50% on-road - through the cultural heritages at Northeast of Portugal with 650 kilometers and 13.500 meters of climbing. From the Douro vineyard landscapes and through the remote areas of Trás-os-Montes. 'A Trans Montana' will be available next summer 2023.

'Riders of the Stone Age' is a bikepacking ride - 55% off-road and 45% on road - across the Côa Valley and historic villages of 'Beira Alta' region with 200 kilometers and approximately 4.000 meters of climbing. The ride will start on June 20, 2023. 'Slow is okay' approach. More news soon.
