Depopulation, desertification, degradation. This is a journey through what we left behind. In the past 5 decades, the population living in Portugal increased 50% in coastal areas and decreased 40% in inland regions. The population density in the coast is around 375 times bigger than in inland territories. Less than 1/5 of the total national younger population lives here. 60% of them plan or want to move to coastal urban cities. The number and intensity of the wildfires is increasing due to the abandonment of the florestal/agricultural areas and lack of land management - playing a much more determinant factor than climate change. Furthermore, we disable railway lines and we significantly reduced the investment in health and education.
